Finding Utah Butterflies-->Wasatch Hilltops

The breathtaking views of the tops of Utah's Wasatch Range rivals any other habitat or physiogeographic region in the state of Utah.   At the same time the diversity of flora and fauna there can be extensive--even to exceed that of the Wasatch Canyons below; eventhough some of the butterfly species that fly in our Wasatch Canyons may be found near the tops of the mountains.

Because of the average level of Utah snow pack--which can vary from year to year--most of the butterflies and moths fly at this habitat during the months of June through September.  Because of the shortness of time period, most lepidoptera only have one flight.

Examples of great locations to find butterflies in the hilltops of the Wasatch Front include Guardsman Pass, Bountiful Peak, Francis Peak, and Mt. Nebo Loop Road.

Please see our Utah Lepidopterists' Society page to get a checklist of butterflies from Wasatch Hilltops.
